Before smart controllers, WiFi timers, and cloud-connected irrigation, there was the mechanical genius of the original impact sprinkler.

This shirt features a clean white-ink rendering inspired by Orton H. Englehart’s 1935 Water Sprinkler patent — Patent No. 1,997,901, filed December 18, 1933 and patented April 16, 1935. The drawing captures the side sectional view of Englehart’s slow-rotation sprinkler design, a mechanical breakthrough built around step-by-step movement, spring tension, water pressure, and repeated impact.

In the patent, Englehart described a sprinkler designed for orchards, gardens, golf courses, lawns, and similar landscapes. His goal was simple but important: create a practical, relatively inexpensive sprinkler that could slowly rotate and distribute water over a broad area.

The design used water from the nozzle itself to move an oscillating arm. As the jet struck a vane, the arm swung away, then a torsion spring returned it so it could strike the sprinkler body and advance it one small step at a time. That repeating action created the slow rotary movement that helped define the modern impact sprinkler.

Printed as white patent-style artwork on a transparent-background design, this shirt is made for irrigation pros, sprinkler nerds, landscape contractors, and anyone who appreciates the engineering roots of modern water management.

A tribute to the mechanical idea that helped change irrigation forever.
